The parable of the two coins

To understand this story you need to have an approximate understanding of the size of UK coins. So here's a picture. The thing to notice here is the "One pound" coin is of the highest value, but it's smaller than the 50 and 10 pence ones. On with the story.

So, there's this young kid. He's 9 years old. His name is Alex.

There's another group of older kids. We won't name all of them but the ring leader is a guy called Jeff.

Jeff and his friends like to tease Alex. They're kinda mean to him.

One of the tricks Jeff and his friend like to play on Alex is to offer him a 10p coin or a £1 coin. Alex always picks the big 10p coin - and Jeff and his friends laugh at Alex and make jokes about the dumb kid.

One day another older boy (Who is not part of the bullying group) pulls Alex aside. He says;

"I don't get it. You see them mocking you and you know £1 is more than 10p. Why do you not take the higher value coin?"

Alex smiles, coyly. Then replies;

"Well, I know the day I take the £1 they will not play any more".

Moral of the story.

In the market, there's risks to taking things at face-value. The market is a poker game. A smart poker player knowing they hold the winning hand knows the only way to get their counter-part to over commit is to make them think they are winning. Present yourself as weak, allow them the illusion of being strong - And then they'll never see it coming when the rug is pulled.
